Laaa uqsimu bi yawmil qiyaamah

75:1I swear by the Day of Resurrection!

Wa laaa uqsimu bin nafsil lawwaamah

75:2And I swear by the self-critical soul!

Ayahsabul insaanu al lan najm'a 'izaamah

75:3Does man suppose that We will not put together his bones [at resurrection]?

Balaa qaadireena 'alaaa an nusawwiya banaanah

75:4Yes indeed, We are able to [re]shape [even] his fingertips!

Bal yureedul insaanu liyafjura amaamah

75:5Indeed, man desires to go on living viciously.

Yas'alu ayyyaana yawmul qiyaamah

75:6He asks, ‘When will be this “day of resurrection”?!’

Fa izaa bariqal basar

75:7But when the eyes are dazzled,

We khasafal qamar

75:8the moon is eclipsed,

Wa jumi'ash shamusu wal qamar

75:9and the sun and the moon are brought together,

Yaqoolul insaanu yaw ma 'izin aynal mafarr

75:10that day man will say, ‘Where is the escape [from this day]?’

Kallaa laa wazar

75:11No indeed! There will be no refuge!

Ilaa rabbika yawma 'izinil mustaqarr

75:12That day the [final] goal will be toward your Lord.

Yunabba 'ul insaanu yawma 'izim bimaa qaddama wa akhkhar

75:13That day man will be informed about what [works] he had sent ahead [to the scene of judgement] and [the legacy that he had] left behind.

Balil insaanu 'alaa nafsihee baseerah

75:14Indeed, man is a witness to himself,

Wa law alqaa ma'aazeerah

75:15though he should offer excuses [to justify his failings].

Laa tuharrik bihee lisaa naka lita'jala bih

75:16Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it.

Inna 'alainaa jam'ahoo wa qur aanah

75:17Indeed it is up to Us to put it together and to recite it.

Fa izaa qaraanaahu fattabi' qur aanah

75:18And when We have recited it, follow its recitation.

Summa inna 'alainaa bayaanah

75:19Then, its exposition [also] lies with Us.

Kallaa bal tuhibboonal 'aajilah

75:20No! Indeed, you love this transitory life

Wa tazaroonal Aakhirah

75:21and forsake the Hereafter.

Wujoohuny yawma 'izin naadirah

75:22Some faces will be fresh on that day,

Ilaa rabbihaa naazirah

75:23looking to their Lord,

Wa wujoohuny yawma 'izim baasirah

75:24and some faces will be scowling on that day,

Tazunnu any yuf'ala bihaa faaqirah

75:25knowing that they will be dealt out a punishment breaking the spine.

Kallaaa izaa balaghatit taraaqee

75:26No indeed! When it reaches up to the collar bones

Wa qeela man raaq

75:27and it is said, ‘Who will take him up?’

Wa zanna annahul firaaq

75:28and he knows that it is the [time of] parting,

Waltaffatis saaqu bissaaq

75:29and each shank clasps the other shank,

Ilaa rabbika yawma'izinil masaaq

75:30that day he shall be driven toward your Lord.

Falaa saddaqa wa laa sallaa

75:31He neither confirmed [the messages of Allah], nor did he pray,

Wa laakin kazzaba wa tawalla

75:32but denied [them] and turned away,

Summa zahaba ilaaa ahlihee yatamatta

75:33and went back swaggering to his family.

Awlaa laka fa awlaa

75:34So, woe to you! Woe to you!

Summa awlaa laka fa awla

75:35Again, woe to you! Woe to you!

Ayahsabul insaanu anyytraka sudaa

75:36Does man suppose that he has been abandoned to futility?

Alam yaku nutfatam mim maniyyiny yumnaa

75:37Was he not a drop of emitted semen,

Summa kaana 'alaqata fakhalaq fasawwaa

75:38and then a clinging mass? Whereat He created and proportioned [him],

Faja'ala minhuz zawjayniz zakara wal unsaa

75:39and made of him the two sexes, male and female.

Alaisa zaalika biqaadirin 'alaaa any yuhyiyal mawtaa

75:40Is not [someone like] that able to revive the dead?
