Wassamaaa'i wattaariq

86:1By the heaven, and by the nightly visitor

Wa maaa adraaka mattaariq

86:2(and what will show you what is the nightly visitor?

Annajmus saaqib

86:3It is the brilliant star):

In kullu nafsil lammaa 'alaihaa haafiz

86:4there is a guard over every soul.

Fal yanzuril insaanu mimma khuliq

86:5So let man consider from what he was created.

Khuliqa mim maaa'in daafiq

86:6He was created from an effusing fluid

Yakhruju mim bainissulbi wat taraaa'ib

86:7which issues from between the loins and the breast-bones.

Innahoo 'alaa raj'ihee laqaadir

86:8Indeed He is able to bring him back [after death],

Yawma tublas saraaa'ir

86:9on the day when the secrets are examined

Famaa lahoo min quwwatinw wa laa naasir

86:10and he shall have neither power nor helper.

Wassamaaa'i zaatir raj'

86:11By the resurgent heaven,

Wal ardi zaatis sad'

86:12and by the furrowed earth:

Innahoo laqawlun fasl

86:13it is indeed a conclusive discourse,

Wa maa huwa bil hazl

86:14and not a jest.

Innahum yakeedoona kaidaa

86:15Indeed they are devising a stratagem,

Wa akeedu kaidaa

86:16and I [too] am devising a plan.

Famahhilil kaafireena amhilhum ruwaidaa

86:17So respite the faithless; give them a gentle respite.
