Wan naazi 'aati gharqa

79:1By those [angels] who wrest [the soul] violently,

Wan naa shi taati nashta

79:2by those who draw [it] out gently,

Wass saabi-haati sabha

79:3by those who swim smoothly,

Fass saabi qaati sabqa

79:4by those who, racing, take the lead,

Fal mu dab-bi raati amra

79:5by those who direct the affairs [of creatures]:

Yawma tarjufur raajifa

79:6the day when the Quaker quakes

Tatba'u har raadifa

79:7and is followed by the Successor,

Quloobuny-yau maaiziw-waaji-fa

79:8hearts will be trembling on that day,

Absaa ruhaa khashi'ah

79:9bearing a humbled look.

Ya qoo loona a-inna lamar doo doona fil haafirah

79:10They will say, ‘Are we being returned to our earlier state?

Aizaa kunna 'izaa man-nakhirah

79:11What, even after we have been decayed bones?!’

Qaalu tilka izan karratun khaasirah.

79:12They will say, ‘This is, then, a ruinous return!’

Fa inna ma hiya zajratuw-waahida

79:13Yet it will be only a single shout,

Faizaa hum biss saahirah

79:14and behold, they will be awake.

Hal ataaka hadeethu Musaa

79:15Did you receive the story of Moses,

Iz nadaahu rabbuhu bil waadil-muqad dasi tuwa

79:16when his Lord called out to him in the holy valley of Tuwa?

Izhab ilaa fir'auna innahu taghaa.

79:17[And said,] ‘Go to Pharaoh, for indeed he has rebelled,

Faqul hal laka ilaa-an tazakka.

79:18and say, ‘‘Would you purify yourself?

Wa ahdi yaka ila rabbika fatakh sha

79:19I will guide you to your Lord, that you may fear [Him]?’’ ’

Fa araahul-aayatal kubra.

79:20Then he showed him the greatest sign.

Fa kazzaba wa asaa.

79:21But he denied, and disobeyed.

Thumma adbara yas'aa.

79:22Then he turned back, walking swiftly,

Fa hashara fanada.

79:23and gathered [the people] and proclaimed,

Faqala ana rabbu kumul-a'laa.

79:24saying, ‘I am your exalted lord!’

Fa-akha zahul laahu nakalal aakhirati wal-oola.

79:25So Allah seized him with the punishment of this life and the Hereafter.

Inna fee zaalika la'ibratal limaiy-yaksha

79:26There is indeed a moral in that for someone who fears!

A-antum a shaddu khalqan amis samaa-u banaaha.

79:27Is your creation more prodigious or that of the heaven He has built?

Raf'a sam kaha fasaw waaha

79:28He raised its vault and fashioned it,

Wa aghtasha lailaha wa akhraja duhaaha.

79:29and darkened its night, and brought forth its forenoon.

Wal arda b'ada zaalika dahaaha.

79:30Thereafter He spread out the earth,

Akhraja minha maa-aha wa mar 'aaha.

79:31brought forth from it its water and pastures,

Wal jibala arsaaha.

79:32setting firm the mountains,

Mataa'al lakum wali an 'aamikum.

79:33as a [place of] sustenance for you and your livestock.

Fa-izaa jaaa'atit taaam matul kubraa.

79:34When the Greatest Catastrophe befalls

Yauma Yata zakkarul insaanu ma sa'aa.

79:35—the day when man will remember his endeavours

Wa burrizatil-jaheemu limany-yaraa.

79:36and hell is brought into view for those who can see—

Fa ammaa man taghaa.

79:37as for him who has been rebellious

Wa aasaral hayaatad dunyaa

79:38and preferred the life of this world,

Fa innal jaheema hiyal maawaa.

79:39his refuge will indeed be hell.

Wa ammaa man khaafa maqaama Rabbihee wa nahan nafsa 'anil hawaa

79:40But as for him who is awed to stand before his Lord and restrains his soul from [following] desires,

Fa innal jannata hiyal maawaa

79:41his refuge will indeed be paradise.

Yas'aloonaka 'anis saa'ati ayyaana mursaahaa

79:42They ask you concerning the Hour, “When will it set in,

Feema anta min zikraahaa

79:43considering your frequent mention of it?”

Ilaa Rabbika muntahaa haa

79:44Its outcome is with your Lord.

Innamaaa anta munziru maiy yakshaahaa

79:45You are only a warner for those who are afraid it.

Ka annahum Yawma yarawnahaa lam yalbasooo illaa 'ashiyyatan aw duhaahaa

79:46The day they see it, it shall be as if they had not stayed [in the world] except for an evening or forenoon.
