51:3by [the ships] which move gently [on the sea];

51:4by [the angels] who dispense [livelihood] by [His] command:

Innamaa too'adoona la-saadiq

51:5indeed what you are promised is true,

Wa innad deena la waaqi'

51:6and indeed the retribution will surely come to pass!

Wassamaaa'i zaatil hubuk

51:7By the sky full of adornment [with stars],

Innakum lafee qawlim mukhtalif

51:8indeed you are of different opinions!

Yu'faku 'anhu man ufik

51:9He who has been turned away [from the truth] is turned away from it.

Qutilal kharraasoon

51:10Perish the liars,

Allazeena hum fee ghamratin saahoon

51:11who are heedless in a stupor!

Yas'aloona ayyaana yawmud Deen

51:12They ask, ‘When will be the Day of Retribution?’

Yawma hum 'alan naari yuftanoon

51:13It is the day when they will be tormented in the Fire,

Zooqoo fitnatakum haa zal lazee kuntum bihee tas ta'jiloon

51:14[and will be told]: ‘Taste your torment. This is what you used to hasten.’

Innal muttaqeena fee jannaatinw wa 'uyoon

51:15Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and springs,

Aakhizeena maaa aataahum Rabbuhum; innahum kaanoo qabla zaalika muhsineen

51:16receiving what their Lord has given them, for they had been virtuous aforetime.

kaanoo qaleelam minal laili maa yahja'oon

51:17They used to sleep a little during the night,

Wa bilashaari hum yastaghfiroon

51:18and at dawns they would plead for forgiveness,

Wa feee amwaalihim haqqul lissaaa'ili walmahroom

51:19and there was a share in their wealth for the beggar and the deprived.

Wa fil ardi aayaatul lilmooqineen

51:20In the earth are signs for those who have conviction,

Wa feee anfusikum; afalaa tubsiroon

51:21and in your souls [as well]. Will you not then perceive?

Wa fissamaaa'i rizqukum wa maa too'adoon

51:22And in the sky is your provision and what you are promised.

Fawa Rabbis samaaa'i wal ardi innahoo lahaqqum misla maa annakum tantiqoon

51:23By the Lord of the sky and the earth, it is indeed the truth, just as [it is a fact that] you speak.

Hal ataaka hadeesu daifi Ibraaheemal mukrameen

51:24Did you receive the story of Abraham’s honoured guests?

Iz dakhaloo 'alaihi faqaaloo salaaman qaala salaamun qawmum munkaroon

51:25When they entered into his presence, they said, ‘Peace!’ ‘Peace!’ He answered, ‘[You are] an unfamiliar folk.’

Faraagha ilaaa ahlihee fajaaa'a bi'ijlin sameen

51:26Then he retired to his family and brought a fat [roasted] calf,

Faqarrabahooo ilaihim qaala alaa taakuloon

51:27and put it near them. He said, ‘Will you not eat?’

Fa awjasa minhm khee fatan qaaloo laa takhaf wa bashsharoohu bighulaamin 'aleem

51:28Then he felt a fear of them. They said, ‘Do not be afraid!’ and they gave him the good news of a wise son.

Fa aqbalatim ra-atuhoo fee sarratin fasakkat wajhahaa wa qaalat 'ajoozun 'aqeem

51:29Then his wife came forward crying [with joy]. She beat her face, and said, ‘A barren old woman!’

Qaaloo kazaaliki qaala Rabbuki innahoo huwal hakeemul 'aleem

51:30They said, ‘So has your Lord said. Indeed He is the All-wise, the All-knowing.’

Qaala famaa khatbukum ayyuhal mursaloon

51:31He said, ‘O messengers, what is now your errand?’

Qaalooo innaaa ursilnaaa ilaa qawmim mujrimeen

51:32They said, ‘We have been sent toward a guilty people,

Linursila 'alaihim hijaa ratam min teen

51:33that We may rain upon them stones of clay,

Musawwamatan 'inda rabbika lilmusrifeen

51:34sent for the transgressors from your Lord.

Fa akhrajnaa man kaana feehaa minal mu'mineen

51:35So We picked out those who were in it of the faithful,

Famaa wajadnaa feehaa ghaira baitim minal muslimeen

51:36but We did not find there other than one house of Muslims,

Wa taraknaa feehaaa aayatal lillazeena yakhaafoonal 'azaabal aleem

51:37and We have left therein a sign for those who fear a painful punishment.’

Wa fee Moosaaa iz arsalnaahu ilaa Fir'wna bisultaa nim mubeen

51:38And in Moses [too there is a sign] when We sent him to Pharaoh with a manifest authority.

Fatawalla biruknihee wa qaala saahirun aw majnoon

51:39But he turned away assured of his might, and said, ‘A magician or a crazy man!’

Fa akhaznaahu wa junoo dahoo fanabaznaahum fil yammi wa huwa muleem

51:40So We seized him and his hosts, and cast them into the sea, while he was blameworthy.

Wa fee 'Aadin iz arsalnaa 'alaihimur reehal'aqeem

51:41And in ‘Ad when We unleashed upon them a barren wind.

Maa tazaru min shai'in atat 'alaihi illaa ja'alat hu karrameem

51:42It left nothing that it came upon without making it like decayed bones.

Wa fee Samooda iz qeela lahum tamatta''oo hattaa heen

51:43And in Thamud, when they were told, ‘Enjoy for a while.’

Fa'ataw 'an amri Rabbihim fa akhazal humus saa'iqatu wa hum yanzuroon

51:44Then they defied the command of their Lord; so the thunderbolt seized them as they looked on.

Famas tataa'oo min qiyaaminw wa maa kaanoo muntasireen

51:45So they were neither able to rise up, nor to come to one another’s aid.

Wa qawma Noohim min qablu innahum kaano qawman faasiqeen

51:46And the people of Noah aforetime. Indeed, they were a transgressing lot.

Wassamaaa'a banainaa haa bi aydinw wa innaa lamoosi'oon

51:47We have built the heaven with might, and indeed it is We who are its expanders.

Wal arda farashnaahaa fani'mal maahidoon

51:48And We have spread out the earth, so how excellent spreaders We have been!

Wa min kulli shai'in khalaqnaa zawjaini la'allakum tazakkaroon

51:49In all things We have created pairs so that you may take admonition.

Fafirrooo ilal laahi innee lakum minhu nazeerum mubeen

51:50‘So flee toward Allah. Indeed, I am from Him a manifest warner to you.

Wa laa taj'aloo ma'al laahi ilaahan aakhara innee lakum minhu nazeerum mubeen

51:51Do not set up another god besides Allah. Indeed I am from Him a manifest warner to you.’

Kazaalika maaa atal lazeena min qablihim mir Rasoolin illaa qaaloo saahirun aw majnoon

51:52So it was that there did not come any apostle to those who were before them but they said, ‘A magician,’ or ‘A crazy man!’

Atawaasaw bih; bal hum qawmun taaghoon

51:53Did they enjoin this upon one another?! Rather, they were a rebellious lot.

Fatawalla 'anhum famaaa anta bimaloom

51:54So turn away from them, as you will not be blameworthy.

Wa zakkir fa innaz zikraa tanfa'ul mu'mineen

51:55And admonish, for admonition indeed benefits the faithful.

Wa maa khalaqtul jinna wal insa illaa liya'budoon

51:56I did not create the jinn and the humans except that they may worship Me.

Maaa ureedu minhum mir rizqinw wa maaa ureedu anyyut'imoon

51:57I desire no provision from them, nor do I desire that they should feed Me.

Innal laaha Huwar Razzaaqu Zul Quwwatil Mateen

51:58Indeed it is Allah who is the All-provider, Powerful and All-strong.

Fa inna lillazeena zalamoo zanoobam misla zanoobi ashaabihim falaa yasta'jiloon

51:59Indeed the lot of those who do wrong [now] will be like the lot of their [earlier] counterparts. So let them not ask Me to hasten on [that fate].

Fawailul lillazeena kafaroo miny yawmihimul lazee yoo'adoon

51:60Woe to the faithless for the day they are promised!
