The Splitting Open · Meccan · 25 verses

Izas samaaa'un shaqqat

84:1When the sky is split open

Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat

84:2and gives ear to its Lord as it should.

Wa izal ardu muddat

84:3When the earth is spread out

Wa alqat maa feehaa wa takhallat

84:4and throws out what is in it, emptying itself,

Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat

84:5and gives ear to its Lord as it should.

Yaaa ayyuhal insaanu innaka kaadihun ilaa Rabbika kad han famulaaqeeh

84:6O man! You are labouring toward your Lord laboriously, and you will encounter Him.

Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenih

84:7Then, as for him who is given his record [of deeds] in his right hand,

Fasawfa yuhaasabu hi saabai yaseeraa

84:8he will receive an easy reckoning,

Wa yanqalibu ilaaa ahlihee masrooraa

84:9and he will return to his folks joyfully.

Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo waraaa'a zahrih

84:10But as for him who is given his record from behind his back,

Fasawfa yad'oo subooraa

84:11he will pray for annihilation

Wa yaslaa sa'eeraa

84:12and enter the Blaze.

Innahoo kaana feee ahlihee masrooraa

84:13Indeed he used to be joyful among his folk,

Innahoo zanna al lai yahoor

84:14and he thought that he would never return.

Balaaa inna Rabbahoo kaana bihee baseeraa

84:15Yes, his Lord had been watching him.

Falaaa uqsimu bishshafaq

84:16I swear by the evening glow,

Wallaili wa maa wasaq

84:17by the night and what it is fraught with,

Walqamari izat tasaq

84:18by the moon when it blooms full:

Latarkabunna tabaqan 'an tabaq

84:19you will surely fare from stage to stage.

Famaa lahum laa yu'minoon

84:20What is the matter with them that they will not believe,

Wa izaa quri'a 'alaihimul Quraanu laa yasjudoon

84:21and will not prostrate when the Quran is recited to them?

Balil lazeena kafaroo yukazziboon

84:22Indeed, the faithless impugn [the Apostle],

Wallaahu a'lamu bimaa yoo'oon

84:23and Allah knows best what they keep to themselves.

Fabashshirhum bi'azaabin aleem

84:24So inform them of a painful punishment,

Illal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon

84:25excepting such as are faithful and do righteous deeds: for them there will be an everlasting reward.
